Introducing: The Wuling Mini EV, the compact electric vehicle that sold more than the Tesla Model 3 when it was launched. In this video, we are going to talk about all the pros and cons of the Wuling Hongguang EV, as well as how this Urban Mobility vehicle became the hottest selling EV in the world.
The Wuling Mini EV, the best-selling electric car in China, will receive a long-range variant shortly. The additional variant would address the low-range concern about the budget electric car among Chinese customers.
the 2022 Wuling Mini EV will receive a 26.5 kWh battery pack (almost 2X current battery capacity) this year that provides a range of 280 km/174 miles (CLTC). Thanks to a long range of nearly 300 km/186 miles, many customers may need to charge the Mini EV just once a week.At the beginning of 2021, Tesla Model 3 lost its leadership among the best-selling electric vehicles in the world. In this ranking, it had to give way to the small Chinese hatchback Wuling Hong Guang Mini EV, which in just a few months managed to gather a whole army of loyal fans in its homeland.
Now how did that happen? We will tell in this review!
Sales began in July 2020 and withing the first twenty days the Mini EV manufacturer received 15,000 orders. For six months, this number increased eightfold and amounted to 120,000 cars. And according to the results during the first two months of 2021, the Chinese baby became the best-selling electric car in the world, leaving behind the permanent leader Tesla Model 3.
Such impressive sales dynamics were made possible by the unprecedentedly low price of this electric car: just over $4,200 in the basic version and about $5.5 thousand in the improved configuration. For comparison, the price of the Tesla Model 3 in the domestic car market in China is about $42,000, which is 10 times more expensive than the Mini EV.
Max. Power ~ 27 PS or 20 kW (120km & 170km version), 41PS or 30kW (200km &
300km version)
Max. Torque ~ 85N.m(120km & 170km version), 110N.m(200km & 300km version)
The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV (Chinese: 五菱宏光MiniEV) is a battery electric microcar[citation needed] manufactured by SAIC-GM-Wuling since 2020. Retail deliveries began in China in July 2020. As of January 2022, sales since inception have passed 500,000 units, and the Mini EV has become the best-selling electric car in China
The Mini EV can seat four people, and standard features including air conditioning, power windows, stereo system, storage and compartments. Standard safety features of the Mini EV include anti-lock brakes, tire pressure monitoring sensors, and rear parking sensors. Early models did not include a driver airbag, but later models such as the Mini EV Macaron include the feature as standard.
Power is produced by an electric motor making a peak 20 kW (27 hp; 27 PS) and 85 Nm. (63 lb ft) of torque with rear-wheel drive, propelling the car to a stated top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph). The Mini EV is equipped with a 9.2 kWh battery capable of a NEDC range of 120 km (75 mi) or a 13.8kWh battery capable of a NEDC range of 170 km (110 mi). Based on the NEDC driving cycle, the estimated energy consumption of the Mini EV is 8,1 kWh/100 km.
A 26.5 kWh model is due for 2022, with 280 kilometres (170 mi) (CLTC) estimated range, an optional more powerful 30 kW (40 hp; 41 PS) motor, and an improved interior.
In 2020, the Mini EV had a price starting at US$4,162, and topped out at US$5,607 for a fully-loaded model, making it China's cheapest electric car.[11] The car has attracted a cult following in China, with owners frequently modifying their vehicles.[12][13] The popularity has been compared to that of kei cars in Japan.[14] The vehicle has been such a success that it has inspired a number of copycats and competitors, including the Chery QQ Ice Cream, Dongfeng Fengguang MINI EV,[15] and BAW S3.
